Owen + Vokes + Peters collaboration – TILE TOWELS

We recently collaborated with Brisbane architecture firm Owen + Vokes + Peters. We are both long time lovers of their work and have loved watching their projects of the years. We were chatting with Stu Vokes and he was keen to do something with us, so the idea for a tea towel was an easy place to start!

The collaboration resulted in three tea towels, all using the iconic OVP tile pattern. We have called our design TILE TOWELS. They are available in three colour ways, all paying homage to various Brisbane suburbs.

Holland Park (green)
Pale green reminds me of that ‘eau de Nil’ paint that we keep finding on the floor boards of old sleepouts in suburbs like Holland Park, often hidden from view by layers of Lino and axminster carpet. It also evokes the colour of the sky just before a classic Brisbane hail storm.

Hill End (or West End) (pink)

The pale pink reminds me of the old mono-chromatic bathroom schemes  from the 1930’s and 40’s that we discover in houses dotted through Brisbane suburbs, and the colour of the afternoon sky over West End in summer.

New Farm (white)
Gloss white butchers tiles are the symbol of utility, beauty and austerity in the kitchen and I imagine them lining the walls of butlers pantries in the historic grand homes of New Farm. White is also the colour of the morning sunlight reflected off the surface of the Brisbane River on a winters morning along the banks of the  New Farm peninsula.

Trading hours

Our online store remains open over the Christmas period.  We do however shut our packing room from the morning of Christmas Eve until the first Monday business day in each new year.  In 2014/15 that means we will pack and send all orders made between Christmas Eve 2014 and Sunday 4 January on Monday 5 January 2015.

Christmas trading hours

Its our last day here in the Showroom until 2014! We have had a blast this year, and appreciate everyone who has supported us. We hope everyone who receives E&W for Christmas enjoys their gifts as much as we love making and sourcing them.

See you back in the Showroom in late Jan. Online as always!
